Meet the Lovely Layla

Puppies come and puppies go, but some of our adult doggos have been here for awhile. They’re ready to go home! So every day this week, we’re going to do a little feature on one of these deluxe doggies who we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know during their weeks or months here. Meet our diamonds in the Ruff.

You know how little kids draw a picture of a dog? With the “brown” crayon and the little floppy ears and the big smile and wagging tail? That’s Layla. She’s the platonic ideal of a dog!

Layla is an athlete. In the doggy Olympics, we’re pretty sure she would win the gold for fancy-in-the-air-tennis-ball-catching. Her signature moves include the distance long-jump soaring lunge, the scamper-and-hop upwards leap, the open-mouth tippy-toe dance, and the backwards-awkward-twist elegant fall.

She’s also easy-on-the-eyes – her coat is the color of butterscotch, she has a very symmetrical, adorable ear-flop. You can see for yourself she’s got one of those contagious doggy-grins. She’d look lovely napping in your living room, or bouncily joining you for a walk downtown, or running majestically through your backyard.

And… she’s fun. If you’ve forgotten that dogs are a whole lot of fun, Layla would like to perform a demonstration to remind you. She does an excellent happy play-bow – her downward-facing-dog will get you so ready to play. It’s a great little energy-surge for the humans around her. If you need more of a lift in the morning than your cup of coffee, we can guarantee Layla’s lets-play face will give you an extra endorphin surge.

She’s a very good girl. She’s good at “sit,” she knows “shake,” and she’s good at responding to her name when you say it in a sing-song voice. She DEFINITELY knows the word “treat.” I can personally attest that she’s a big fan of Andre’s homemade treats from AK’s Mercado. The girl has taste!

She’s a very smart girl and is up for more training. While she has been here, she’s been working on her leash manners – she still gets VERY excited about walks and once in awhile forgets she doesn’t need to pull at her leash to let us know she’s ready to go, but she’s getting good at remembering to slow down. Good job, Layla!

She likes getting pets, and would love to be the dog who gets to snuggle up next to you at the end of a long day.

We’re proud of Layla for keeping up her happy optimism even though she’s been here for over a month. Her patience just means she’s waiting for the perfect human to be her soulmate. Or humans… she’d love to be a family dog, and would be good at meeting all the new humans you bring over for company. But she’s not picky – she’d be happy to get all the love and attention from one person, too.

Layla’s goofy out-takes from our photo sessions. Isn’t she a ham??

Layla deserves a home with snuggles, and tennis-ball-throwing, and someone to say “Who’s a good girl?? You are!!”

She’s ready to give all of her doggy love to some lucky home. She’d prefer it if you’d hurry up, because she can’t wait to love you with everything she’s got.

If you think that might be you, fill out an application and one of our adoption specialists will call you to arrange an appointment to meet this fantastic doggo.

Even if you’re not ready to adopt a dog, Layla would love it if you would consider fostering her.
