Fostering at BMHS
Foster families provide short-term, in-home care for pets who need extra support before adoption. Fostering helps animals stay healthy, build confidence, and transition successfully into permanent homes while freeing up space at the shelter.
Pets who benefit from foster care include young puppies and kittens, nursing mothers with litters, animals recovering from medical treatment, and pets who need additional socialization or behavior support.
Foster families play an important role in preparing pets for adoption by observing behavior in a home setting and sharing helpful information with adopters. Many foster pets move directly into their forever homes with little or no additional shelter stay.
Fostering requires commitment and follow-through, but it is one of the most effective ways to help animals in need.
